A great philosopher (either Plato or Frank Zappa; I’m not sure) once said, “Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one, and they all stink.” With that in mind, I’ll reference an article that I read last week about twenty-five movies that, while considered “cult classics,” are not worthy of such adulation. Definitely a matter of opinion.
SERIOUSLY?
Some of the movies on this list have been considered cult classics for decades, and I’m not of a mind to disagree. These include The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Fifth Element, The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, Boondock Saints, Blade Runner, and Dazed and Confused, among others. By definition, cult classics have dedicated, passionate fans who likely can recite every line of dialogue as they view the movies numerous times. (Especially true of Rocky Horror.)
But here is where this article lost me, where it…well, stinks. Included on this list of so-called undeserving cult classics are The Princess Bride and (gasp!) The Goonies! Seriously? Are you kidding me? Two of the most beloved movies ever, cherished by both adults and children (and certainly a couple of my all-time favorites). To me, this is just wrong.
I guess the bottom line is, don’t believe everything you read on the Internet. That, of course, is just my opinion. 😊
