Amy Madigan as Annie Kinsella, wife of Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner).
As I’ve mentioned one or two—or fifty—times since I started this blog, Field of Dreams (1989) is my all-time favorite movie. By extension, so are its stars, in particular Amy Madigan, who played Annie Kinsella, the upbeat, feisty wife of Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner). To me, Ms. Madigan IS Annie Kinsella, and has been for decades. So I was hardly prepared for what went down earlier this year.
The mystery/horror film, Weapons, hit the silver screen in late summer 2025. By early 2026 it was already making the rounds on many of the streaming services. Truthfully, that’s when I first heard about it. The film received critical acclaim for its story, and the actor that was singled out the most was Amy Madigan, my wonderful Annie Kinsella, as a character only referred to as Aunt Gladys. Naturally, I had to check it out.

Aunt Gladys is rather scary.
My reaction? OMG!!
In my lifetime I have watched 783,421 horror movies—give or take—and Aunt Gladys is, in my estimation, one of the scariest, most horrible monsters in all of horror filmdom. If you’ve seen Weapons, you know what I’m talking about.
Amy Madigan won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as Aunt Gladys, and I’m truly happy for her. She is an outstanding performer.
Still: where have you gone, Annie Kinsella?
