Jaedon LeDee led the conference in scoring.

“Et tu, Brute?” For sure, March did not turn out to be the best of months for Julius Caesar. But for those of us who love college basketball, this month is “…the most wonderful time of the year.” That, of course, is because the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments are upon us. Time to fill out those brackets!

My bride and I are doubly excited that two of our teams are participating in the madness: the San Diego State Aztecs men and the University of Iowa Lady Hawkeyes. The men are led by the awesome Jaedon LeDee, the top scorer in the Mountain West Conference. A number 5 seed, the Aztecs will play their first game on Friday against the University of Alabama-Birmingham. At last year’s tournament the Aztecs, against all odds, shocked the nation by making it all the way to the national championship game before succumbing to UConn. Perhaps another shockaroo is in order?

The Lady Hawkeyes, led by the amazing Caitlin Clark (see my post, “An Iowa Basketball Story”), finished a great regular season by winning the Big Ten Conference Tournament. They are a number one seed and will play their first game next Saturday against either Holy Cross or UT-Martin. Like the Aztecs, the Lady Hawks made it to the national championship game last year before losing to LSU. This year they have the firepower to go all the way.

Let’s hear it for the Madness of March!
