Yes indeed, I do want my Mummy, and by Grabthar’s hammer, I just might be getting it! I’m talking about the Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz-fueled franchise that began with The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001), and to a lesser degree, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008). In the latter, Weisz’s character, Evelyn O’Connell, was replaced by Maria Bello, which turned off a lot of fans who loved the first two films, as I did. (Though I did enjoy the story.)
Now, it appears that a new sequel to the second film—which will disregard the third—is in development at Universal Studios, with Radio Silence set to direct. This pair previously directed the successful reboot of the Scream franchise. And best of all, both Fraser and Weisz are in talks to reprise their roles as Rick and Evelyn! (Dare I get greedy and also hope for the return of John Hannah as Evelyn’s brother, and Arnold Vosloo as the guy wrapped in gauze?)
Okay, let’s just say I’m guardedly optimistic about all of this. I’ve seen plenty of phony reports about sequels or reboots to popular films that simply never happened. Anything can be created by AI these days. But this one appears to have more legitimacy to it. Let’s hope it is true.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz might be facing off against the Mummy again.
