So glad NOT to be in the cave anymore, although we remain cautious. This post first ran in 2020, during the heart of the pandemic.
Day 11,587 of the Coronavirus Pandemic (give or take): feels like it anyway, right? We all want it to be over, but the reality is that the blasted thing will likely be around for a long time to come. We’ll just have to deal with it as best we can. Meanwhile, 200,000 Americans have died from Covid-19, about 750 of them here in San Diego County. Man, what did we do wrong?
Jacqueline and I are still doing fine by virtue of primarily staying put in our quarantine cave. (The majority of the local 750 were in our age group.) We haven’t even taken the short walk to our local park for a while, given an extended heat wave that would’ve melted your socks off, followed by crappy air quality generated by the numerous wildfires around Southern California. As I’ve said before, the Mayans really meant 2020.
My bride once told me that only the boring get bored; how true that is. She is still busy with her online classes, her artwork, and her Native American flute. She’s even added journaling to the mix. As for me: still working on a new book, my first in over eight years. It’s going well, and I am having an ever-loving ball! Before undertaking the project I had some concerns about getting back into the flow after such a long hiatus. But as they say, it was just like riding a bicycle. (For those of you who are familiar with my books, there is a clue in that last statement.)
Then, of course, there is baseball. By the time you read this, our San Diego Padres will have clinched a spot in the playoffs for the first time in fourteen years! We are beyond excited.
As Yoda, my Jedi Master, would say: “Better times ahead there will be.” May the Force be with you.
