T. K. Carter
One of the primary reasons that the 1982 sci-fi/horror film, John Carpenter’s The Thing, is considered one of the best movies of its genre is its outstanding ensemble cast. A young actor named T. K. Carter was part of that ensemble. He portrayed Nauls, the affable cook at an isolated Antarctic science facility, who was prone to roller skate through the hallways and blast Stevie Wonder on his boom box while tending to his job. That was, of course, before things got rather tense with the murderous alien Thing on the loose in the complex. Carter’s role was among the most memorable in the film.
Thomas Kent Carter, who appeared in many films and TV shows before and after John Carpenter’s The Thing, passed away last week at the all-too-young age of sixty-nine. Rest in peace, Nauls. I trust you brought those skates with you to the next plane.
