I partake of my morning walk at least 5-6 times a week, covering 2-3 miles each time. I’ve done this for many years, and I cannot recall encountering anything of a “paranormal” nature. Until recently, that is.

THE VANISHING MAN

I emerged from the 55+ Ocean Hills Country Club, where my abode is located, and started down the Cannon Road hill to where it ends at an ecological reserve. Across the street and about a third of the way down, another old guy shuffled along slowly. By the time I passed him, the guy had painstakingly arrived at the halfway mark. I’m talking slowwww. I walked a little farther, maybe for two minutes, then turned to see if he was okay.

The old guy was gone.

No way could he have turned around and gotten to the top of the hill in that time. Nor was there any egress along Cannon Road. A steep, unclimbable hill on one side, a fence on the other. He had just…vanished.

Could Cannon Road be haunted?

THE DISAPPEARING CAR

The sprawling parking lot of the Mariners Church is mostly deserted during weekdays. I’ve walked its perimeter hundreds of times. One day, I saw a white SUV enter the parking lot and move slowly toward the north end, where there are no exits. Looking down, I noticed that one of my shoelaces was untied. I bent over to tie it, which took a whopping few seconds.

When I looked up again, the white SUV was gone.

I’m not making any of this up, and there very well could have been some logical explanation for those two incidents. Or maybe, as the title of this post implies, it might’ve been ghastly aging rather than ghostly sightings. I’ll let you know if (when?) it happens again.
